Dhaka: Former Bangladesh national football team captain Aminul Haque has been appointed State Minister for Youth and Sports in the newly-formed government led by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He received the portfolio as a technocrat.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Aminul Haque is widely recognized for his contributions as one of the most accomplished goalkeepers in Bangladesh football history. He stepped down from international duty in 2011 after a lengthy tenure as the national team captain, which began in 1998.
Aminul retired from professional football following the 2013-14 season, concluding a 17-year career that was marked by significant injuries and five surgeries. His presence on the field was a key element during a pivotal era for Bangladesh football.
After retiring, Aminul transitioned into politics in 2014, embarking on a new path that has now culminated in his appointment to a ministerial position.
