Dhaka:Former Officer-in-Charge of Cantonment Police Station, Md Rakibul Hasan, has been placed on a five-day remand by a Dhaka court in a sedition case related to allegedly spreading anti-state and provocative statements on social media.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Judge Md Didarul Alam of the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court issued the remand order after police presented Rakibul Hasan in court, requesting a seven-day remand for further investigation.
Rakibul was arrested earlier in the day from Rajarbagh in the capital, as stated by Md Akhtar Hossain, deputy commissioner of Media and Public Relations for Dhaka Metropolitan Police. The remand aims to facilitate intensive interrogation to ensure a thorough investigation and to uncover any conspiracy linked to the incident.
On September 17, Rakibul was removed from his position as OC and reassigned to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police headquarters after a viral audio clip allegedly featuring him criticizing the government, administration, Bangladesh Army, and police force surfaced on social media. Subsequently, he was placed in the custody of the Detective Branch of police.
