Dhaka: The namaz-e-janaza of former BNP Member of Parliament (MP) and politician GM Fazlul Haque was held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) today. The ceremony took place at 12:00 pm, led by Senior Imam of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, Muhammad Saifullah.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, prior to the janaza, Fazlul Haque’s son addressed the attendees, seeking prayers for his father’s eternal peace. Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, offered prayers for the departed soul and extended condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Chandpur-3 constituency. He lauded GM Fazlul Haque as a man of integrity who dedicated his life to serving the country. In tribute, the Speaker placed a wreath on the coffin of the deceased.
Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Md Nurul Islam and Whip Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu, along with Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat Kaniz Mowla and other senior officials, also paid their respects by placing floral wreaths on the coffin. Prayers and supplications followed, seeking forgiveness for the soul of GM Fazlul Haque.
Members of Parliament, the Sergeant-at-Arms, and officials and employees of the Parliament Secretariat attended the janaza prayers. GM Fazlul Haque passed away on Tuesday evening at a private hospital in the capital at the age of 79. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and numerous well-wishers.
GM Fazlul Haque was elected MP from the Chandpur-3 constituency as a nominee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in the seventh and eighth parliamentary elections held in 1996 and 2001. During his tenure, he contributed to infrastructure development, expansion of education, and the growth of trade and industry in his constituency.
