Dhaka: A Dhaka court today placed former Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) general secretary Ajoy Kar Khokon and former Muladi Pourashava mayor Shafiqul Zaman Rubel on a three-day police remand in a case filed with Gulshan Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Gulshan police had produced the two before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, seeking a seven-day remand. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman, acting on behalf of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, granted three days after hearing both sides.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the police reported that the two individuals, along with several accomplices, gathered near Jabbar Tower in Gulshan on April 22 to carry out "destructive activities" and chant anti-state and anti-government slogans. Detectives arrested Rubel from Gulshan on October 3 and Khokon from the same area on September 23. They were initially sent to jail through the court before being brought back on remand today.
