Rangpur: The Detective Branch (DB) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP), the agency investigating the murders of four members of the same family, including a retired schoolteacher, has sent evidence found at the scene for forensic analysis. RpMP Deputy Commissioner (DB) Sanatan Chakraborty confirmed the matter to BSS tonight.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) collected 35 pieces of evidence from the scene while recovering the bodies of schoolteacher Ganapati Chakraborty, his wife, daughter, and son from their house in the Machhuapara area of the city on August 22. The collected evidence was sent to the CID's forensic laboratory in Dhaka for further examination.
Sanatan Chakraborty mentioned that all the evidence obtained from the CID in three stages over the last two days has been sent to the CID's forensic laboratory, following the proper procedure as per the court's orders. Depending on the forensic test results, DNA samples from the arrested accused Siddhartha Das and Mugdha Das, who are currently in jail, will be collected for further investigation.
Special Superintendent of Police of the CID's Rangpur office, Sumit Chowdhury, stated that the evidence was collected from the scene under the leadership of CID expert Inspector Md Millat on the night of August 22. After the collection, the evidence was handed over to the investigation officer for further processing.
The case took a formal turn when Gopinath Chakraborty, the elder brother of the deceased Ganapati Chakraborty, filed a murder case with RpMP's Kotwali Police Station on August 23. Neighbours Mugdha Das and Siddhartha Das were arrested from the same area in connection to the murders. Both accused gave confessional statements before Rangpur Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Md Rafiqul Islam.
The investigation is currently being overseen by DB Officer-in-Charge Inspector Md Zinnat Ali, who is working diligently to uncover the truth behind these tragic events.
