Dhaka: A Dhaka court today convicted and sentenced Evaly Managing Director Mohammad Rassel and Chairperson Shamima Nasrin to five years in jail each in another case filed over fraud. The court also imposed a fine of Tk 10,000 on each, with an additional three-month jail term if the fines are not paid.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain delivered the verdict in the absence of the accused, issuing arrest and conviction warrants against them. The case documents revealed that the accused attracted customers through flashy advertisements and lucrative offers on a variety of products via Evaly's official Facebook page.

The complainant, Sadiqur Raihan, relied on these offers and ordered three motorcycles on March 20, 2021. However, the company failed to deliver the motorcycles within the promised time and later provided two cheques from City Bank to the complainant. On April 12, 2022, Sadiqur attempted to cash the cheques, but both were dishonoured.

In response to the incident, Sadiqur filed a case against Mohammad Rassel and Shamima Nasrin with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka on November 26, 2023. This is not the couple's first conviction; on September 18, 2025, another court sentenced them to three years of rigorous imprisonment in a similar fraud case.
