Dhaka: A four-member delegation of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, led by its Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman, held a meeting today with representatives of the European Parliament at the European Union Embassy in Dhaka. The meeting marks a significant engagement between the European parliamentary representatives and the Jamaat-e-Islami, focusing on the political climate in Bangladesh.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Jamaat delegation included Nayeb-e-Ameer and former lawmaker Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar, and the party chief's foreign affairs adviser, Professor Dr Mahmudul Hasan. The discussion predominantly revolved around the prevailing political scenario in Bangladesh, especially concerning the forthcoming February elections.
Following the meeting, Dr Taher addressed reporters, emphasizing that the dialogue was conducted in a cordial manner. The primary focus was on the nature of the upcoming elections and whether they would be free and fair. Dr Taher highlighted that the European Parliament representatives were keen to understand the electoral process and its expected execution.
