Bogura: A team of election observers from the European Union today inspected the distribution of election materials in Bogura as preparations ramp up for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election and the referendum set for 2026. The observers, including Paul Kamelia and Evelin Kivima, visited the Bogura Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium this morning to oversee the process.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the election materials are being dispatched in phases to 983 polling centers across 12 upazilas in Bogura. Presiding officers are responsible for delivering these materials, which include ballot papers, ballot boxes, seals, stamps, and forms, to each center.
Materials for 150 polling centers under Bogura Sadar Upazila are being distributed from the Upazila Parishad auditorium, with the formal handover process having commenced at 10:00 am. Assistant Returning Officer Abdul Wazed, Additional Superintendent of Police Mostafa Manjur, and Upazila Election Officer Zayed Ibne Abul Fazal managed the handover to the presiding officers, while law enforcement agencies ensured the security of the process.
The Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency holds particular political significance, with five candidates, including BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, contesting the seat. Across the district's seven parliamentary constituencies, 34 candidates from parties such as BNP, Jamaat, Islami Andolon, Jatiya Party, BASAD, CPB, and others are participating.
Bogura comprises 12 upazilas and 12 municipalities, with a voter base of 29,81,940, which includes 14,80,871 male voters, 15,01,007 female voters, and 42 third-gender voters. The district is equipped with 5,578 polling booths, both permanent and temporary.
Assistant Returning Officer Abdul Wazed affirmed that all necessary preparations are complete to ensure a free and peaceful election process. He stated that election materials are being dispatched according to the scheduled timeline and expressed optimism that voting would take place in a festive atmosphere on Thursday.
