Accra:The July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum has been recognized by European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner for embodying the immense suffering and resilience of the Bangladeshi people over the past two decades. Brunner shared these sentiments during his visit to the museum, which took place yesterday.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Brunner commenced his visit by paying respects at the memorial devoted to those who lost their lives during the autocratic regime. He was accompanied by Michael Miller, the European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh. While at the museum, Brunner examined a letter from Anas, who was killed in police firing on August 5, and learned about the significant contributions women made during the July uprising.

During their tour, the delegation explored exhibits that document 16 years of misrule under the ousted government of Sheikh Hasina. They also reviewed displays that allegedly highlight the repression carried out by the Awami League government against the BNP and other political parties.

After the visit, Brunner met with Ehsan Mahmud, the Director General of the museum. He expressed gratitude towards the museum for providing a detailed account of Bangladesh's recent history and the experiences faced by its citizens. Brunner emphasized the EU's commitment to supporting Bangladesh in restoring public confidence, acknowledging the brutal repression the people endured.

Previously, an EU Election Observation Mission had also visited the museum as part of their monitoring activities for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election in 2026.
