Montreal:The European Union (EU) is seeking to establish a partnership with Canada that could surpass existing alliances, according to EU chief Ursula von der Leyen. This announcement comes in anticipation of a summit with Canadian leader Mark Carney.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, von der Leyen expressed a desire for the relationship to reach "the highest level possible," with discussions of Canada potentially becoming the EU's "first associate member." This proposal, however, is facing some internal debate within the EU regarding the terminology used.

In her speech in Montreal, von der Leyen emphasized the unique nature of the proposed partnership, suggesting it would "come closer to membership than anything we have done before." Despite the intra-EU discussions, both parties are eager to explore this unprecedented level of collaboration.
