Essential Drugs Company Restructures Board with New Leadership

Dhaka: The Board of Directors of Essential Drugs Company Limited (EDCL) has been reconstituted with the Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain taking the helm as its Chairman. This strategic move was confirmed through a notification issued by Md. Kaisar Rahman, Deputy Secretary of the Health Services Division under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the reconstitution of the board aligns with Articles 53 and 54 of the company’s Memorandum and Articles of Association. The newly appointed Chairman, Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain, is expected to lead the board in advancing the company’s mission to provide essential drugs.



The gazette also outlines the composition of the restructured board, which includes several high-ranking officials: the state minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. M. A. Muhit, the Secretary of the Health Services Division, the Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the Director General of the Directorate General of Family Planning, and the Director General of the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA).



The notification specifies that the Managing Director of Essential Drugs Company Limited will serve as the Member-Secretary of the Board, ensuring the implementation of decisions and coordination among board members.
