Dhaka: Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today unveiled the national air quality management action plan, highlighting the government's strategic approach to tackle air pollution sources, improve monitoring, and enhance enforcement mechanisms. "It provides a roadmap for implementing stringent regulations and promoting cleaner technologies in industries, transportation, and urban development," Hasan stated at the launch event for the 'Bangladesh National Air Quality Management Action Plan' at the Department of Environment (DoE). According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizwana emphasized that this action plan is integral to Bangladesh's broader strategy to achieve sustainable environmental targets. The plan focuses on reducing alarming pollution levels affecting both rural and urban areas. By prioritizing cleaner air, the government reiterates its commitment to environmental protection and the well-being of future generations. She stressed the need for collaboration among gov ernment agencies, development partners, civil society, and the private sector for effective implementation of the plan. The event also featured speeches from Environment Secretary Dr. Farhina Ahmed and World Bank Practice Manager Christian Peter, with DoE Director General Dr. Abdul Hamid presiding over the ceremony. Attendees included World Bank representatives, high-level officials from various ministries, environmental organizations, academia, and media representatives. Discussions centered on integrating air quality management into national policies, adopting advanced monitoring technologies, and raising public awareness about pollution's health impacts.
