Dhaka:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized that ensuring the rights and security of every citizen, regardless of religion, is his duty as the head of government.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Prime Minister expressed his commitment during a meeting with Hindu community leaders from the Dhaka-17 constituency at the Bangladesh Secretariat. He stated his intention to prioritize everyone's security based on their humanity rather than their religion.

The meeting with representatives from eight temples in the constituency was part of an invitation to the Prime Minister for their Durga Puja celebrations. The community leaders appreciated the government's initiatives for their welfare since the BNP took office, acknowledging the increase in the Puja holiday and financial support.

Prime Minister Rahman highlighted the government's efforts since assuming office and its intentions to address additional issues. He recalled the unity among different faiths during the Liberation War and democratic movements, noting that religion was not a factor in these critical national events. He questioned why religion should be a consideration in other matters when the country was liberated and democracy was established collectively.

The Prime Minister condemned the persecution of political activists by the previous Awami League regime, noting that both Hindu and Muslim activists faced repression without religious distinction. He reiterated his commitment to serving all citizens and ensuring their rights and security within his capacity.

Hindu community leaders affirmed their peaceful living conditions since the national election and expressed satisfaction with the government's actions. Their support for the BNP was reaffirmed, with a pledge of continued cooperation.

The meeting included BNP Executive Committee member Ramesh Dutta, leaders from various Puja committees, and representatives from the Dhaka-17 constituency.
