Dhaka: The energy ministry today issued a set of emergency directives for energy conservation as part of the government’s energy security campaign, fearing disruptions of the global supply chain due to the Middle East crisis could affect the country as well.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the power, energy, and mineral resources ministry statement today issued the directive asking every government, autonomous, and private institution, commercial establishment, and citizen to adopt immediate precautionary measures to ensure the best use of energy resources.
The ministry’s directive outlined specific instructions in three key areas, with a particular focus on natural gas conservation. The government has requested citizens to follow appropriate methods to maximize gas savings during cooking and other domestic purposes. The circular emphasized avoiding unnecessary use of gas-powered appliances and encouraged regular maintenance of pipelines and burners to prevent leakages. Additionally, a strict warning was issued against the illegal use of gas.
To further conserve energy, the ministry advocated for the use of public transport instead of private vehicles and the adoption of car-pooling systems when possible, aiming to reduce liquid fuel consumption across the country. The circular also urged citizens to limit or avoid unnecessary travel to minimize fuel expenditure.
Government offices and institutions have been directed to ensure fuel efficiency both during and after office hours as part of the institutional measures. In parallel, the ministry urged commercial entities to implement economical practices and avoid any form of excess fuel consumption.
The government emphasized the importance of increased public awareness to safeguard the nation’s energy security during this volatile period.
