Dhaka: A court here today placed Bangladeshi-origin US citizen Enayet Karim Chowdhury on a five-day remand afresh in a case lodged under the Anti-Terrorism Act with the capital’s Ramna Police Station. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Mohammed Zunayed passed the order after the police produced him before the court and pleaded for a seven-day remand in the case.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Enayet was previously placed on a two-day remand in the case on September 15, followed by another five-day remand on September 17. The case was filed by Sub Inspector Azizul Hakim of the Ramna Police Station on September 14.
Enayet Karim Chowdhury was arrested from the city’s Mintoo Road area on September 13, after being seen moving suspiciously in a Land Cruiser Prado SUV. Case documents allege that Enayet, acting as an agent of a foreign intelligence agency, is involved in a conspiracy to undermine public security and the sovereignty of Bangladesh.
