Dhaka: Young opener Parvez Hossain Emon achieved a century as Abahani Limited returned to winning form in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) with a substantial 162-run victory against Gulshan Cricket Club at BKSP-4 ground today. Emon's impressive innings of 126 runs off 124 balls, including nine fours and eight sixes, powered Abahani to a commanding total of 323-6, a target that proved insurmountable for their opponents.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Abahani batsmen displayed determination, led by Emon's standout performance. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, however, continued to struggle, contributing only 9 runs. Emon received strong support from Mohammad Mithun, who scored 72 off 65 balls with six fours and three sixes. The partnership between Emon and Mithun added 171 runs for the third wicket, establishing a solid foundation for their team's formidable score.
Following the dismissal of Emon and Mithun, Mahfujur Rahman Rabby added 28 runs off 14 balls, and Mosaddek Hossain Saikat remained unbeaten with 35 runs, ensuring Abahani surpassed the 300-run mark.
In reply, Gulshan Cricket Club managed 161-9, with Rayhan Ali Ikram absent hurt. Opener Zawad Abrar began promisingly, scoring 36 off 18 balls before being dismissed by Mehedi Hasan. Khalid Hasan top-scored with 49, while Nihad Uz Zaman contributed 35 runs. Despite the return of Liton, who missed the first match against Mohammedan, he was unable to make a significant impact, getting out for 14 runs.
Abahani's bowling attack was led by left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan, who took 4-40, and pacer Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, who claimed 3-29. Gulshan, a newcomer in the league, had previously surprised with a 107-run victory over Mohammedan in their opening game but failed to replicate that performance against Abahani.
