Election to FBCCI Board of Directors tomorrow

The election to the Board of Directors of the

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce of Industry (FBCCI) for the

2023-2025 term would be held tomorrow at the Bangabandhu International

Conference Center (BICC).

A total of 34 directors — 17 from the chamber group and 17 from the

association group — have already been selected as directors for the fresh

term out of the total director posts of 80 as per the organogram of the

country’s apex trade body.

Some 23 director aspirants from the chamber group has already been elected

unanimously as some 23 nominations were submitted against the post of 23

directors from the chamber group.

On the other hand, some 49 candidates from the association group are vying

for the post of 23 directors in the FBCCI polls. Out of the total aspirant

candidates, some 23 candidates are vying for the post of directors from the

Baboshayi Oikya Parishad Panel, 23 candidates from the Sammilito Baboshayi

Parishad Panel and three aspirants as independent candidates.

The election to the Board of Directors of FBCCI will be held from 9 am to 4

pm without any break at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center

(BICC). The elected directors will then elect the new FBCCI president, senior

vice president and six vice presidents on August 2.

Speaking about the election, FBCCI president Md Jashim Uddin said that the

current FBCCI Board wants to hand over the power to the new leadership

through a democratic process.

“The FBCCI has formed an independent election board to ensure a free and

participatory election. Our lone goal is to award a free, fair and credible

election,” he said urging all the voters to cast their votes in a festive

mood.

Election board chairman and former president of Bangladesh Textiles Mills

Association (BTMA) A Matin Chowdhury said that all the necessary preparations

have been completed to hold the election in a free and fair manner. “Our

efforts will be there so that we can hold the election in a free manner and

festive mood. I’ll urge the voters to cast their votes in a disciplined way

through abiding by the rules,”

He informed that one voter would be able to cast their votes against 23 posts

of directors while none except the voters would be able to enter the polling

centers. No candidate or voter will be able to enter the polling center

without the identity card.

The two other election board members are former FBCCI director M Shamsul Alam

and Agrani Bank director KMN Monjurul Haque.

According to the election rules, the aspirant candidates will not be able to

hold any rally, showdown within 100 yards of the polling center while no

candidate or voter will be able to carry fire arms at the polling center.

The transparent ballot box will be unveiled 15 minutes prior to the election

in presence of all the candidates and then the ballot box will be sealed off.
