Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) confirmed today that the upcoming general election will occur in February, as per the timeline set by the Chief Adviser. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Jahangir emphasized that there is no need to heed speculative comments about potential election delays.
Jahangir made these remarks while distributing anti-polythene leaflets in the Krishi Market area of Mohammadpur. This activity is part of a campaign to raise awareness about the dangers associated with illegal polythene usage. During his address, Jahangir reiterated that the power of the people is the driving force behind the election process, and no external force can hinder it.
Jahangir also issued a stern warning against extortionists, declaring that no individual involved in extortion will be spared, regardless of their influence. He assured that extortionists would not receive patronage in Bangladesh and urged the media to assist in identifying these individuals so they can face justice.
He highlighted that the rate of extortion is notably higher in the Mohammadpur and Mirpur areas compared to other regions.
