Thakurgaon:Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah announced that there is no necessity to deploy the army for the Thakurgaon-1 by-polls, as the number of law enforcement personnel assigned is three times that of the previous parliamentary election held on February 12.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sanaullah assured that the electoral environment remains satisfactory, with adequate law enforcement personnel to be stationed at polling centers, all under CCTV surveillance. These measures, he stated, ensure sufficient security for the by-election without the need for army deployment.
Sanaullah made these remarks following a meeting with the law and order cell, vigilance and observation teams, and other officials at the Deputy Commissioner's office. The meeting focused on maintaining law and order, adhering to the electoral code of conduct, and ensuring that voters could cast their votes without hindrance.
Earlier, during an administrative meeting at the Thakurgaon Circuit House, the election commissioner emphasized the importance of readiness among law enforcement agencies and relevant officials to conduct a free, fair, and impartial by-election. Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed and Deputy Commissioner of Thakurgaon Mohammad Rafiqul Islam were among the attendees.
The discussions underscored the need for maintaining a peaceful electoral environment and improving coordination among the agencies involved in election management. Commissioner Sanaullah arrived in Thakurgaon the previous night to review security preparations and provide necessary instructions to ensure a smooth by-election process.
