Election Atmosphere in Khulna Prevails as Security Ensured

Khulna: Election preparations in Khulna are intensifying as law enforcement agencies work tirelessly to ensure a peaceful and credible parliamentary election. Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Coast Guard, and police are conducting round-the-clock patrols across all six constituencies, setting the stage for the 13th National Parliamentary Election scheduled for February 12, 2026.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the joint patrol operation, which began on January 26, is part of efforts to enhance security and maintain an election-friendly atmosphere. The operation kicked off with a joint rehearsal at Shaheed Hadis Park, where Khulna Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Nurul Haque Mohammad Anas addressed a press briefing. Anas emphasized the operation’s goal to restore public confidence, enabling voters to cast their votes without fear. He also stated that joint teams would act swiftly to prevent illegal arms activity and address any untoward incidents.



To reinforce election security, Anas highlighted that 20 executive magistrates are actively working across Khulna’s constituencies. A judicial inquiry committee has been established to investigate candidates’ complaints, and a law and order cell has been formed to maintain stability. Khulna District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner A S M Jamshad Khondaker noted improvements in the law and order situation and mentioned that coordination meetings with law enforcement agencies have been conducted to ensure priority attention at polling centers.



Deputy Commissioner (South) of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Mohammad Tajul Islam reported the recovery of illegal weapons and instructed intelligence units to intensify operations to arrest criminals. He warned that strict action would be taken against anyone using weapons during the election. KMP Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan confirmed strengthened security measures and additional protection for candidates, expressing optimism about a peaceful election.



RAB-6 Commander Nistar Ahmed reported increased recoveries of arms and cocktail bombs compared to previous months and affirmed RAB’s active role in arresting criminals and supporting police following recent murder incidents. He stated that 68 RAB patrol teams are operational across eight districts of the Khulna division, ready to act under the instructions of returning officers should any polling center come under threat.
