Naogaon: An elderly woman was killed after being struck by a pickup van while crossing a regional highway in Badalgachi upazila of the district this morning. The deceased was identified as Sahida Begum, 72, wife of Abu Bakkar Siddique, a resident of Bhandarpur Purbapara village under Kola union in the upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the accident took place around 9.30 am on the Badalgachi-Akkelpur highway in Bhandarpur Bazar area when a pickup van hit the woman as she was attempting to cross the road, leaving her injured. Locals rescued her and sent her to Akkelpur Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
Badalgachi Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Nazrul Islam confirmed the incident. Police stated that further investigation into the accident is underway.
