Laxmipur: Eid shopping at different markets in the district town has gained momentum, with shoppers expressing satisfaction over the existing law and order situation.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, shoppers are flocking to various markets until midnight, with the markets adorned in colorful lights, banners, and festoons. The district administration and police have implemented security measures to ensure the safety of buyers, including continuous patrolling and strict vigilance.

Local administration has also deployed mobile courts within market premises to swiftly address any disruptions and prevent fraudulent pricing practices, much to the satisfaction of both buyers and sellers. Significant crowds were reported at municipal markets, masjid market, muktijoddha market, boutique houses, Zia complex, Gazi complex, and other shops across five upazilas and Chandraganj thana areas.

The influx of buyers is increasing daily as Eid-ul-Fitr approaches, with shoppers busy from morning until midnight. While attractive brands are displayed in various shops, there are fewer items named after Indian serials, with local brands readily available. Eid attire and shoes for babies and small children are in high demand, while cosmetics remain popular among girls.

Businessmen Abdul Aziz and Abu Sayed from Lakshipur hawkers’ market mentioned that the demand for Pakistani dresses has surpassed the previous years’ demand for Indian dresses. Trading activities in these shops and markets have improved compared to previous years due to reasonable and comparatively low prices. Shop owners are content with the law and order situation, noting a significant decrease in extortion and mugging incidents this year.

Md Jamshed Alam Rana, Nirbahi Officer of Lakshipur Sadar Upazila, stated that mobile courts are operating round the clock to prevent shopkeepers from overcharging buyers. SP Tarek Bin Rashid added that the police have implemented strong security measures at various markets, shopping complexes, and key points in the district to ensure the safety and security of customers and shoppers. Additionally, close circuit cameras have been installed in strategic areas of the town to deter theft, dacoity, and other crimes.
