Dhaka: Efforts are being made to ensure the accountability of sports federations in Bangladesh, according to Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Speaking to the media at the Secretariat on the occasion of the 100 days of the interim government, Bhuiyan stated that each federation would be required to submit an annual report and an audit report to ensure their accountability. He emphasized that any incidences of corruption would be thoroughly investigated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the interim government, which came into power following a mass uprising in July-August that led to the ousting of the Awami League government, has been focusing on eradicating corruption across all sectors, including sports. Bhuiyan highlighted that while several federations are autonomous, limiting government intervention, efforts are still being made to restructure them to enhance transparency and accountability.
Bhuiyan mentioned that the process of restructuring is ongoing, w
ith complaints against various committees being addressed. Measures are being implemented to resolve the current crisis and address stagnation by forming new committees. Furthermore, specific efforts are focused on breaking the deadlock of the country’s richest federation, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), by appointing new directors.
