Dhaka: The Ministry of Education has announced a new policy stipulating that an individual cannot serve as the president of a private school or college managing committee for more than two consecutive terms.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the recently issued gazette outlines specific qualifications required for nomination as president of the governing body, including a Master's degree from a recognized university, a four-year Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification. However, there exists a provision allowing re-nomination for a third term, but only after a break of one term.
Additionally, the gazette specifies that a person cannot be nominated as the president of the governing body for more than one private educational institution. Furthermore, an individual is restricted from serving as a member of more than three private educational institutions of any type. On Sunday, the education ministry released the 'Barishal Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, Lower Secondary, Secondary and Higher Secondary Level Private Educational Institutions Governing Body and Managing Committee Regulations-2025.'
Mymensingh and Sylhet Education Boards issued a similar notification on the same day, while the Dhaka Education Board had already released theirs on August 28. The managing committee structure will include a president, three general teacher representatives, a reserved female teacher representative, five general guardian representatives, a reserved female guardian representative, and a founding member representative. All general guardian representatives are to be elected by the vote of all guardians of the students from the respective schools and colleges.
