Dhaka: Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon emphasized the need for an educational shift towards developing students as world-class citizens rather than focusing solely on traditional education metrics like GPA-5. He shared these insights while speaking as the chief guest at the ‘China-Bangladesh Education Cooperation Forum-2026’ held at the International Mother Language Institute.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the forum was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka and managed by the China-Bangladesh Education and Cultural Exchange Association. Dr. Milon highlighted the inadequacies of the current education system, specifically pointing out the lack of coordination between industry and universities. He stressed the importance of transforming the country’s manpower into skilled human resources capable of meeting employment challenges.

Dr. Milon expressed the government’s commitment to ensuring quality education, stating that efforts are underway to reform the curriculum and academic calendar. He urged teachers to focus on daily classroom teaching and evaluation rather than relying solely on end-of-year exams.

The minister also underscored the benefits of pursuing higher education in China and advocated for making ‘third language’ education mandatory to meet globalization challenges. He noted that learning Chinese could significantly enhance students’ opportunities in the international labor market and higher education.

The event was presided over by Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, with Prime Minister’s Education Adviser Dr. Mahdi Amin serving as a special guest. Other notable speakers included Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division Abdul Khaleque, UGC Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, BUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Badruzzaman, and Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Professor Dr. Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel.

Senior education officials, eminent educationists, and representatives from various universities in China and Bangladesh were also in attendance, highlighting the significance of this collaborative educational initiative.
