Dhaka: Education Adviser Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar emphasized the role of education in eradicating inequality within society. He expressed these views while acknowledging the contributions of 267 teachers who assisted in revising school textbooks.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Dr. Chowdhury highlighted that textbooks are fundamental to students’ knowledge acquisition. He stated that accurate, modern, and education-friendly textbooks not only enhance educational quality but also contribute to building a progressive society. In his written message, he commended the active participation of subject-based experts and teachers in improving textbook content accuracy, clarity, and presentation standards, as prepared by the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB).
The adviser noted that maintaining textbook quality is a collaborative effort involving NCTB’s manpower and teachers across the country. He described teachers as the primary stakeholders in education and emphasized the importance of their online feedback in shaping the educational landscape.
Professor Dr. Chowdhury praised teachers’ leadership in creating a knowledge-based society, expressing hope for continued support in crafting student-centered textbooks. He mentioned that the nation’s gratitude for teachers’ contributions would be enduring.
Deputy Secretary (Education) Dr. AKM Tajkir-uz-Zaman informed BSS that written acknowledgments have been sent to 155 teachers, with the remaining letters to be delivered in phases. The interim government initiated textbook corrections following news reports four months prior.
The correction process occurred in three stages: Initially, suggestions were solicited online from experienced Dhaka teachers. Subsequently, over a hundred teachers from various regions were brought to Dhaka to work at the NCTB office for two weeks during office hours. Finally, experienced teachers addressed any remaining textbook errors.
