Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) is set to initiate dialogues with election experts and civil society representatives as part of its preparations for the upcoming general elections scheduled for February next year. This move marks a significant step in the EC's efforts to ensure inclusive and transparent electoral processes.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussions will be conducted in two separate sessions. The first session, dedicated to civil society figures, will take place from 10 am to 12 pm, while the second session, set aside for election experts, will occur from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. These dialogues are part of the EC's broader strategy to engage various stakeholders in the electoral process and gather insights that could enhance the administration of the elections.
EC spokesman M Asadul Haque detailed that additional dialogues with other key stakeholders, including political parties, media professionals, women leaders, and representatives of the July fighters, will be conducted following the puja vacation. This phased approach is designed to incorporate a wide range of perspectives and ensure that the electoral process is comprehensive and well-informed.
To enhance transparency and public engagement, the EC plans to broadcast the dialogues live via its official Facebook page and YouTube channel. This initiative aims to provide citizens with direct access to the discussions and promote an open dialogue about the electoral process.
EC officials have expressed that they anticipate concluding the entire dialogue process within a 45-day timeframe. This timeline underscores the commission's commitment to timely and efficient preparations for the upcoming elections, ensuring that all necessary measures are in place well before the polls.
