Dhaka: Senior Secretary of the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat, Akhtar Ahmed, is set to inaugurate the expatriate voter registration program in the United States. The visit is part of a broader initiative aimed at accelerating voter registration and the issuance of national ID cards to Bangladeshis living abroad.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a press release today announced the details of the visit. A letter signed by EC Deputy Secretary M Mazharul Islam outlines that Akhtar Ahmed will lead an administrative and technical delegation during this mission.
The delegation is scheduled to depart from Dhaka on September 19, with plans to remain in the United States from September 21 to September 27. Their return to Dhaka is expected on September 29. During their stay, the team will focus on overseeing the installation of necessary equipment and providing training to local embassy and consulate officials.
The efforts will ensure smooth registration processes at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC and consulates in New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. This initiative is a significant step towards strengthening the voting rights of expatriate Bangladeshis and expediting the national ID card issuance process.
