Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) has formally requested the senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure the security and safety of the offices of returning officers and assistant returning officers nationwide during the upcoming election and referendum scheduled for February 12.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the EC issued a letter today, signed by Deputy Secretary (Polls Operation-2) of the EC Secretariat Mohammad Monir Hossen. The letter noted that the schedule for the 13th National Parliamentary Election was announced on December 11, and a gazette notification has been issued for the appointment of returning officers and assistant returning officers to conduct the polls smoothly.
The letter emphasized the necessity of ensuring the security of poll officials and employees, along with the safety of important documents and electoral equipment housed at the offices of returning officers and assistant returning officers across the country.
Considering the potential law and order challenges during the polls, the EC has requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to issue instructions for deploying an adequate number of police personnel to ensure security at the offices of returning officers and assistant returning officers.
