Agargaon: Dialogue of the Election Commission (EC) with the registered political parties began today at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon. On the first day, the dialogue was held with six political parties: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Bangladesh Congress, Bangladesh Muslim League, National Peoples Party, Bangladesh Khilafat Andolon, and Jamiat Ulama e Islam Bangladesh.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in his introductory speech, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin expressed hope that the Commission would fulfill its national responsibility by playing an impartial role in the upcoming election. He also urged political parties to adhere strictly to the electoral code of conduct.
During the dialogue, leaders from the political parties shared their opinions on ensuring a free and fair election. They called on the CEC to provide maximum security at polling centers and to maintain a neutral stance. The leaders emphasized the importance of strictly enforcing electoral rules, providing equal opportunities for all parties, and reducing election expenses.
To prevent the influence of money and coercion, the party leaders urged the EC to take a firm stand against vote rigging. The CEC warned that disregarding electoral rules could lead to conflicts, stating, "We don't want any conflict; we never want to face anybody. We want to go ahead with all. The political parties will have to play a key role here."
Highlighting the unique nature of the upcoming election, the CEC added, "This election is totally different from any other elections in the past. So, your close cooperation is exclusively needed for us."
Present during the dialogue were Election Commissioners Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Mohammad Sanaulla, Tahmida Ahmed, and M Anwarul Islam Sarker, along with EC secretary Akhter Ahmed and other officials.
The EC is scheduled to hold further dialogue with six additional political parties this afternoon, including the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BASAD), Biplobi Workers Party, Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF), and Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Andolon (BNM).
