Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) has issued a letter to the secretaries of various ministries and departments, urging election workers and other eligible groups to register for postal voting in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election and referendum scheduled for February 12.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the letter, signed by KM Ali Newaz, Project Director of the Out of the Country Voting System Development and Implementation Project and Additional Secretary of the Election Commission, outlines that, along with expatriate voters, government employees residing outside their designated voting regions, officials involved in election duties, and individuals in legal custody are eligible to cast their votes via postal ballots in the forthcoming national elections and referendums.
Eligible voters must register through the Postal Vote BD app, ensuring their correct address is provided to receive their ballot by post. Upon successful registration, the Election Commission will dispatch the ballot to the voter's address. The registration period is open until December 25, and further details can be accessed on the Bangladesh Election Commission website (www.ecs.gov.bd).
The EC has specifically called upon government employees working across ministries, departments, agencies, directorates, and offices under the IBUS salary system, as well as election duty officials residing outside their voting areas, to register and promote the use of the Postal Vote BD app to exercise their voting rights. Notably, 344,233 expatriates have already completed their registration on the Postal Vote BD app.
