Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin stated that the Election Commission (EC) is committed to facilitating a free, fair, and acceptable election, serving as an impartial referee accountable to the nation. Addressing representatives of political parties, he emphasized the need for cooperation to successfully conduct elections.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CEC made these remarks during a dialogue with registered political parties at the commission's conference room in Agargaon. He stressed the importance of adhering to the electoral code of conduct, noting the presence of unauthorized posters in and outside Dhaka. The CEC warned of immediate action against any breaches following the election schedule announcement.
The dialogue also touched upon discussions of a potential referendum. The CEC acknowledged the unofficial nature of these discussions but noted the unique circumstances of the current election under a special government. He highlighted new challenges, including voting arrangements for overseas voters and government employees, as well as concerns about misinformation on social media.
Nasir Uddin reiterated the EC's commitment to treating all political parties equally and valuing their input. He called for active participation and cooperation from all parties, marking this election as distinct from previous ones. He concluded with a plea for continued support up to the polling day.
Election Commissioners Md. Anwarul Islam Sarker, Begum Tahmida Ahmad, and Brig Gen Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah (retd), along with EC Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, attended the meeting. The morning session included six political parties, with six additional parties scheduled for the afternoon session.
