Chitalmari: A field day focusing on the early-maturing Red Ruby tomato variety was held at Raigram in Chitalmari upazila, organized by BRAC Seed and Agro Enterprises with active participation from local farmers.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Agronomist Md Mostafizur Rahman, the Regional Sales Manager for Khulna, addressed the event as the chief guest. During his speech, Mostafizur Rahman emphasized the benefits of the Red Ruby variety, noting its early harvesting advantage, resistance to diseases, and favorable market price, all factors contributing to its growing popularity among farmers.
Local farmer Prakash Roy shared his experience, revealing that he earned approximately Tk 80,000 after investing Tk 25,000 in cultivation. He anticipates earning an additional Tk 70,000 to Tk 80,000 from future sales. Roy's success story has inspired other farmers in the region to consider adopting this tomato variety.
The program included a field visit, crop inspection, and interaction with the participating farmers, providing them a platform to discuss their experiences. Organizers of the event expressed that it significantly boosted farmers' confidence in cultivating Red Ruby tomatoes and anticipated that its adoption would expand in Chitalmari, Bagerhat, and surrounding areas in upcoming seasons.
Officials from various departments of the organization were also present during the event, further underlining the importance of this initiative.
