Rajshahi:As the Sharadiya Durga Puja approaches, the streets of Rajshahi are bustling with last-minute shoppers. The vibrant festival atmosphere is most visible in Shaheb Bazar, New Market, and the city’s large shopping malls, where crowds are gathering to prepare for the celebrations.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the excitement surrounding Puja is evident in the diverse array of clothing choices available. Traditional handloom sarees, including Jamdani, Dhakai Benarasi, and Rajshahi Silk, are highly sought after by women, while young women are drawn to kurtis, co-ord sets, and Pakistani three-pieces. Men's fashion features Punjabis in various materials such as cotton and silk, with intricate thread work and zardozi designs being particularly popular.

Saree trader Manik Karmakar noted the high demand for traditional sarees with red borders and Jamdani designs, while Akash Hasan, a Panjabi seller, highlighted a trend towards light-colored semi-long Punjabis for morning offerings and more elaborately designed ones for evening events.

Children's clothing is also a focal point, with options ranging from frocks and lehengas to colorful kurtas and small Panjabis. The festive atmosphere is enhanced by soft lighting, instrumental music, and vibrant displays in shopping centers.

Shoppers like university student Sushmita Sen and service holder Ashim Kumar shared their experiences of shopping in groups, emphasizing the joy of choosing outfits that match the spirit of each day of Puja. Despite the heat and crowds, the excitement and smiles brought on by the festivities make the shopping experience enjoyable.
