Rangpur:A festive atmosphere envelops Rangpur as preparations for Durga Puja, the largest festival of the Sanatan community, are in their final stages. Artisans are diligently working at 964 mandaps across the district to ensure a vibrant celebration.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the district administration and puja committees have implemented comprehensive measures to ensure the festival is celebrated in an atmosphere of religious harmony. This year, Durga Puja will take place at 164 mandaps in Rangpur Metropolitan City and 800 mandaps in the district's eight upazilas.
The government has allocated 578 tonnes of special relief rice to be distributed among the mandaps, with each receiving 600 kg to aid in the celebration. As the festival approaches, a four-tier security system has been deployed to maintain peace and order.
Artisans are busy bringing the idols of goddess Durga and other deities to life, working from morning until late at night. Despite challenges such as rising costs and a shortage of skilled artisans, the preparations continue with some mandaps sourcing idols from neighboring districts.
The festival not only celebrates religious traditions but also emphasizes Bangladesh's cultural heritage and communal harmony. Alongside traditional rituals, events like devotional music, distribution of sacred food offerings, and cultural programmes are planned.
Local communities, volunteer groups, and law enforcement are actively participating to ensure the safety and smooth movement of devotees during the festivities. The Rangpur District Superintendent of Police has assured comprehensive security arrangements, with personnel on duty even before the celebrations commence.
