Chattogram:The Durga Puja mandap at Sri Sri Bhubaneswari Sarbojanin Matrimandir in West Popadia, Boalkhali, is drawing attention with its unique theme, 'Justice in the Hands of Durga End Violence Against Women Now.' This theme aims to raise awareness about violence, oppression, social discrimination, and the impunity faced by women.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the installation, titled 'Mother's Court' (Matri Adalat), features Goddess Durga seated on a judge's bench, holding a trishul (trident) and a judge's gavel. Beside her stand Ganesha, Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Kartikeya, dressed as lawyers. The scene includes a human figure in the dock as the accused and a blindfolded witness symbolizing societal silence. The exhibition uses paintings, murals, and protest slogans to blend mythological episodes with portrayals of modern-day abuse, urging people to speak out against injustice.

Jeki Ghosh Munna, treasurer of the temple's standing committee and key organizer of 'Mother's Court,' stated that the theme was chosen to highlight the enduring violence, oppression, and injustice women face. Jewel Das, president of the standing committee, noted that the annual Sharadiya festival had begun with Mahalaya, resonating with the public in the current social context.

The Puja at Sri Sri Bhubaneswari Sarbojanin Matri Mandir has been a community tradition for 18 years, starting in 2008. Visitors like Rubesh Das and Ayan Mallik have praised the initiative for its fresh perspective on women's issues and its connection to current events.

The organisers state that beyond celebrating the festival, 'Matri Adalat' aims to promote social awareness and convey a message of solidarity and justice for women. The mandap has been open since Panchami, with formal proceedings commencing on October 16, Shashthi, and concluding on October 21, Vijaya Dashami, with the immersion of the idols.
