Dhaka:Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir has announced that Durga Puja is being celebrated peacefully at over 33,000 puja mandaps nationwide.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the IGP emphasized the collaborative efforts between police and Puja committees to ensure the success of the festival through to the immersion of the idols. He shared these remarks with journalists during a visit to the Durga Puja at Dhakeshwari Temple in the capital.

The IGP cautioned against misinformation being spread about the festival and encouraged the public to remain vigilant. Referring to Goddess Durga's battle against evil, he urged unity against malign forces, stating that the country belongs to everyone regardless of religion, beliefs, or caste.

He recalled the disruption in police activities following the July uprising in 2024, which led to increased criminal activities and public concern. However, he assured that with collective cooperation, the police have regained stability. The IGP expressed optimism that joint efforts would continue to combat wrongdoing and improve the quality of life in Bangladesh.

Leaders of the Puja Udjapon Parishad expressed gratitude to the police for their security measures, which have ensured safety at all puja mandaps. Senior police officials and Puja committee leaders were also present during the IGP's visit.
