Dhaka: Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) has protested the continued killing of Bangladeshi citizens in the border areas. In a statement signed today by DUCSU GS SM Farhad, the leaders of the union protested against these killings and demanded diplomatic and legal action.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the statement mentioned that on Sunday (November 30) midnight, the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) brutally beat to death two Bangladeshi youths, Ibrahim Rinku (28) and Momin Mia (29), tied their hands and feet, and threw them into the Padma River in the border area of Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj. DUCSU expressed deep condemnation and strong protest against the ongoing killing of Bangladeshi citizens at the border, asserting that since independence, the Indian Border Security Force has been continuously violating international law by shooting and killing Bangladeshi citizens at the border.
The statement highlighted that despite the global outrage over past incidents, such as the body of teenager Felani hanging from barbed wire or the brutal killing of Swarna Das, the BSF's attitude has not changed. It further stated that despite India's repeated promises, the border situation has not improved.
According to human rights organizations and media reports cited in the statement, about 653 Bangladeshis were killed and thousands more injured in BSF firing and torture from 2009 to December 2025. The statement noted that no investigation or trial has been conducted into these killings, raising grave concerns about Bangladesh's sovereignty.
It was further mentioned that this year alone, approximately 2,000 people have been illegally pushed into Bangladesh from India, including Rohingya and Indian citizens. The statement added that incidents such as explosions, drone flights, and firing have also occurred in the border areas.
The lack of justice in the illegal push-in and killing of Bangladeshi citizens from India poses significant concerns for the country's security and sovereignty, as noted in the statement. It criticized the current government's foreign policy, attributing the ongoing border killings to the weak stance of the Awami League government.
The statement concluded by insisting on diplomatic and legal action for every killing committed by the BSF on the India-Bangladesh border. It called for urgent steps to ensure justice by addressing serious human rights violations like border killings in the International Criminal Court.
