Dhaka: Dhaka University (DU) authorities temporarily expelled a student for six months for making abusive remarks and issuing threats against a female student on social media. The student, Ali Hussen of the Sociology Department (2020-21 session) and a resident of Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Haq Hall, was expelled following the recommendation of a probe committee formed by the Proctor’s office, a DU press release said today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the expulsion represents the highest punishment permissible under the university order within the jurisdiction of the Proctor. The press release further stated that the complaint has also been forwarded to the university’s Sexual Harassment Committee for further action.
