Dhaka: Dhaka University (DU) is set to observe the 126th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam tomorrow, honoring the occasion with a series of planned activities on the campus.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the theme for this year's observance is "The Mass Uprising of 2024: The Legacy of Kazi Nazrul." The day's events will commence with a gathering of university teachers, students, officers, and employees at the base of Aparajeyo Bangla at 6:15 am. This will be followed by a rally, headed by Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan, marching towards the poet's mausoleum at 6:30 am, where participants will lay floral wreaths and offer Fatihah.
A memorial meeting is scheduled to take place on the mausoleum premises to reflect on the life and contributions of Kazi Nazrul Islam. VC Prof Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan will preside over the event, which will also see the presence of Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Sayma Haque Bidisha, Pro-VC (Education) Prof Mamun Ahmed, and Treasurer Prof Dr Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
The program will be conducted by Prof Dr Sirajul Islam (Siraj Salekin), Chairman of the Bangla Department. Additionally, Mohammad Azam, Professor of the Bangla Department and Director General of Bangla Academy, is set to deliver the memorial lecture. The occasion will feature performances of Nazrul Sangeet by teachers and students from the Music Department.
