Dhaka: Dhaka University (DU) unit of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) today paid tribute at the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, marking Independence and National Day. The homage was paid by placing wreaths in the morning. Later, prayers were offered, including Fateha and a special munajat, seeking eternal peace for their departed souls.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, DU JCD President Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahos and General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shapon led the program while other leaders and activists from the university and different residential halls took part. After paying tribute, Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahos stated that the Independence Day serves as an inspiration to uphold the memory and ideals of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, who announced the independence and initiated the Liberation War in 1971. Former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia has been a symbol of Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty, he added.

Nahiduzzaman Shapon noted that from the final struggle for independence to every movement to protect sovereignty, the ideals of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia continue to inspire the people. He added that they are committed to preserving their legacy and will continue working to build Bangladesh into a more democratic, prosperous, and modern state by following those ideals.

Among others who attended the tribute were DU JCD Senior Joint General Secretary Md. Nasir Uddin Shawon, Organizing Secretary Md. Nur Alam Bhuiyan Imon, and Joint General Secretaries Alamgir Hossain Alam, BM Kawsar, and Zubayer Ahmed.
