DU Establishes ‘Abul Kalam Manjur Morshed Trust Fund’

Dhaka: Dhaka University has established a new trust fund titled ‘Professor Dr. Abul Kalam Manjur Morshed Trust Fund’ to dedicate scholarships to students of the Department of Linguistics. Manjula Morshed, daughter of noted linguist and academic Professor Dr. Abul Kalam Manjur Morshed, handed over a cheque of Taka 15 lakh to DU Vice Chancellor to establish the trust in memory of her late father.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, VC Niaz Ahmed Khan expressed gratitude for the establishment of the trust and hoped that it would greatly benefit the students. He noted that such an initiative would play a vital role in further strengthening the bond between the university and society.



Senior teachers, the chairperson of the department, deans, the director of the International Mother Language Institute, and officials of the university were present during the establishment ceremony.



The trust fund will award scholarships to the highest CGPA scorer in the final exam of different semesters of the Department of Linguistics, officials mentioned. Professor Dr. Abul Kalam Manjur Morshed (1938-2023), a former Director General of Bangla Academy, taught in both the Department of Bangla and the Department of Linguistics at Dhaka University.
