Dhaka: The Dhaka University (DU) administration has welcomed the initiative taken by the DU unit of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) to build a clean, green, and eco-friendly campus.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the assurance came during a view-exchange meeting between the university administration and the JCD leaders held today at the Professor Dr. Abdul Matin Virtual Classroom on the campus, a DU press release said. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, currently holding the routine charge of the Vice-Chancellor (VC), Pro-VC (Admin) Prof Dr. Almujaddade Alfashane, Treasurer Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, and Acting Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin were present, among others.
The DU unit JCD President Ganesh Chandra Roy Shahosh and its General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon led the student delegation. During the meeting, JCD leaders presented proposals covering campus waste management, mosquito control, cleanliness, afforestation, dengue awareness, and the removal of unplanned or unauthorized structures.
They informed the administration that Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has agreed to supply 200 trash bins to meet the university's demand, which will be installed upon approval from the DU authorities. The student leaders expressed their willingness to provide voluntary labor to turn the cleanliness drive into a year-round, sustainable program. They announced that DU JCD will conduct a day-long 'Clean Day' program on October 3, 2026, in collaboration with DSCC and the university administration.
Welcoming the initiative, Prof Dr. Abdus Salam pledged all necessary administrative support to make DU a 'Clean and Green Campus'. He noted that designated university departments will select suitable locations for the 200 trash bins and oversee their maintenance according to standard rules. Prof Salam also assured that the administration would participate in the October 3 cleanliness campaign and take steps to manage traffic congestion and temporary shops encroaching on campus roads. He urged students to play a responsible role alongside the administration in managing solid waste effectively. Regarding mosquito control, he mentioned that relevant departments have already been instructed to act immediately, including in residential areas.
