Dhaka: The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) sustained its recovery momentum today as investors took positions in beaten-down stocks amid assurances of resolving industrial gas supply constraints and renewed regulatory engagement with leading brokers. The DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, gained 21.6 points to settle at 5,494, compared with 5,472 points in the previous trading session.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the market remained positive from the outset, while broad-based bargain hunting emerged during the mid-session as investors accumulated stocks that had suffered consecutive declines. However, the recovery lost some momentum in the final hour as cautious selling resurfaced amid subdued investor confidence. Lingering domestic and geopolitical concerns also continued to weigh on market sentiment.

Insurance stocks pared part of their previous-session gains as investors remained uncertain about the sustainability of the market's upturn. Market turnover increased 10.2 percent to Tk 560 crore from Tk 500 crore in the previous session. Textile stocks accounted for the highest share of turnover at 27.6 percent, followed by general insurance at 15 percent and bank stocks at 10.9 percent.

Most sectors posted positive returns. Jute gained 2.1 percent, travel 1.2 percent and paper 1.1 percent, while general insurance declined 2.2 percent, mutual funds 1.7 percent and food 0.4 percent. Of the 395 issues traded, 179 advanced, 153 declined and 63 remained unchanged.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher. Its CSCX and CASPI indices advanced 39.9 points and 74.9 points, respectively.
