Dhaka: The waste management department of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has taken steps to alleviate sufferings of city dwellers due to waterlogging. The temporary waterlogging occurred in several areas of the DSCC following torrential rain, said an official.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, it rained heavily in Dhaka due to the influence of the low pressure formed in the North Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas, as reported by the met office. The DSCC official stated that staffs of the waste management department have been working ward-based to manage the situation, while an emergency response team remains ready to assist.

The DSCC has already employed temporary portable pumps to drain water in areas such as Green Road, Dhaka University area, Shantinagar, Bailey Road, Kakrail, Paltan, Sat Masjid Road, and Dhanmondi. In addition, a high pressure vertical pump has been installed in Kamalapur to facilitate faster drainage.

In case of emergency, the DSCC has urged city dwellers to contact the central control room via 01709-900888 for assistance.
