Lalmonirhat: A group of individuals believed to be drug traders forcibly took an alleged drug peddler from police custody after assaulting two police officers in Hatibandha Upazila of Lalmonirhat district.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the injured officers were identified as Assistant Sub-Inspectors Ayub Ali and Rafiqul Islam from Hatibandha Police Station. The incident occurred during an anti-narcotics operation conducted by a police team in the Madhya Singimari area. The team had detained an alleged drug trader and seized narcotics during the operation, handcuffing the suspect in the process.
As the arrest became known, a group reportedly consisting of alleged drug traders launched a sudden attack on the police team. The attackers were armed with locally made weapons and managed to overpower the officers, freeing the detainee and taking him away, still in handcuffs. Officer-in-Charge of Hatibandha Police Station, Ramjan Ali, confirmed the incident and stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the escaped suspect and those involved in the assault.
