Dhaka:Drik Picture Library is launching a month-long Palestinian cinema screening program in Dhaka, beginning Monday, as part of the fourth edition of 'Palestine Cinema Days Around the World 2026.' This international initiative is organized by Filmlab Palestine.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the event, named 'Palestine Cinema Month 2026,' will open at DrikPath Bhaban under the theme 'Cinema Across Borders. Stories Beyond Erasure.' The initiative unites cinemas, cultural institutions, universities, and grassroots organizers across over 80 countries to showcase Palestinian films.
Drik has been part of this initiative since its start, contributing to the collective effort to preserve Palestinian stories and voices amidst challenges to the country's cultural heritage and historical narratives. Filmlab Palestine emphasized the political importance of this platform in their statement, which asserts the right of Palestinian people to share their stories and maintain their collective memory.
The statement also condemned the ongoing genocide and occupation, calling for an end to violence, lifting of the siege, and fulfillment of the Palestinian people's right to freedom and return. It portrayed cinema as a vital tool for preserving the identities and experiences of Palestinians, particularly those often reduced to mere statistics.
Drik aims to challenge the silencing of Palestinian stories, question the structures of occupation, and promote solidarity reflection through this initiative. The program will run throughout November, featuring a Palestinian film screening every Saturday, allowing local audiences to engage deeper with Palestinian cinema and cultural resistance.
