Dhaka: In a major step toward realizing the long-cherished dream of establishing Dhaka Central University (DCU), the education ministry has sent the draft of its ordinance to the cabinet for approval. Additional Secretary (Planning) of the Ministry of Education Mahbubul Haque Patwari told BSS that after completing all required formalities at the Secondary and Higher Education Division, the draft ordinance has been placed at the highest level of the government for approval. “We hope that the ordinance will receive nod in-principle and final approval from the appropriate authorities very soon,” he added.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Patwari noted that if the current spirit of cooperation continues, the formal journey of DCU will begin very soon, opening a new horizon in the expansion of higher education in Bangladesh. Sources in the Ministry of Education said several important and transparent steps were followed before finalizing the ordinance. These included collecting opinions from relevant ministries and departments, publishing the draft on the ministry’s website for public feedback, and holding formal consultations with teachers, students, and civil society representatives. Expert opinions were also incorporated to develop a universally acceptable framework.
The ministry emphasized that special attention has been given to ensuring quality education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The goal was to establish a modern, up-to-date academic framework that reflects stakeholders’ expectations while addressing existing concerns in the higher education sector.
As the ordinance now awaits approval at the highest level, the Ministry of Education has urged all concerned to show patience and allow the process to proceed in an orderly manner. The ministry called for refraining from any agitation or emotional activities that could cause public suffering or disrupt normal life, warning that instability or chaos could undermine years of collective effort.
