Dhaka: Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, on Friday stressed the importance of placing women at the heart of family and development initiatives to promote their self-reliance. ‘The BNP government believes that if women’s dignity and economic independence are ensured, it will be easier to achieve national development and establish social justice,’ she said.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Dr Zubaida made these remarks while speaking at an iftar party organized by the Ziaur Rahman Foundation at its Gulshan office in the capital, aimed at underprivileged women and children. The event was an opportunity to emphasize the necessity of empowering women and making them self-reliant.

Dr Zubaida underscored the value of learning a third language to enhance employment opportunities both domestically and internationally. She announced that a third language would be introduced from the secondary education level, and technical education would also be incorporated into the curriculum.

The iftar event saw participation from more than 100 underprivileged women and children. Before breaking the fast, Dr Zubaida took the time to exchange greetings with the participants, reinforcing her commitment to the cause of women’s empowerment and self-reliance.
