Dinajpur: Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Prof Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain announced today that the Aman paddy is expected to have a successful yield this season in Dinajpur district. The favorable growth is attributed to the timely application of fertilizers and other agricultural inputs by farmers.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Zahid, speaking as the chief guest at a workers' convention and view-exchange meeting organized by Khanpur Union BNP of Birampur Upazila, emphasized that rumors of a fertilizer crisis are unfounded. He reassured that there is no shortage, and farmers are receiving adequate supplies. The government has maintained the fertilizer price at Tk 27 per kg, and strict monitoring ensures dealers adhere to this rate.
Field officers from the Upazila Agriculture Department are actively overseeing fertilizer distribution to prevent any artificial crisis. Additionally, three sales representatives are appointed under each fertilizer dealer in every union to facilitate easy access for farmers.
Dr. Zahid highlighted past initiatives by the BNP government, such as the agricultural loan waiver, and ongoing efforts to support farmers. He also introduced the Family Card initiative, promising monthly financial aid to mothers in impoverished families, aimed at empowering them to enhance their household economies.
Further, the minister outlined the government's commitment to advancing women's education and healthcare, with initiatives like free textbooks, scholarships, and financial aid for medical treatments. These measures are part of broader efforts to uplift the socio-economic status of women and ensure accessible healthcare for all citizens.
